Kennel Club USA is proud to announce its partnership with the Union Cynologie International known as the UCI.

The UCI is a German based organization with International ties throughout Europe and other countries around the world.  Kennel Club USA will name Kennel Club International as the organization that will be offering to dog fanciers from all around the world an array of International Championships that you and your dog can be awarded.  Kennel Club International will soon list a calendar of events for the year 2011.  Kennel Club International will also list the breeds that we can offer International Championships.  Call 301-868-5718 for more information. IABACA is no longer a member of the UCI and therefore cannot issue an International Title from the UCI, contact IABACA for further information with regards to International Titles or to find out what country they are licensed or approved to issue International Titles from.

ORIGIN : France.

DATE OF PUBLICATION OF THE ORIGINAL VALID STANDARD:13.O1.1965.

 

UTILIZATION:  Pack Hound for big game.

 

FCI CLASSIFICATION:  Group 6 Section 1.1 With working trial. Scenthounds and related breeds. Large sized hounds.

 

GENERAL APPEARANCE  :   Large  pack hound, elegant, sufficiently well boned and muscled.

 

HEAD :  Not  too  imposing,  but  quite  elongated;  occipital protuberance marked.

 

CRANIAL REGION:

Skull : Very slightly domed, skull quite developed.

Stop : More accentuated than in the Poitevin.

 

FACIAL REGION:

Nose : Black; open nostrils.

Muzzle : Straight, rather long and sometimes slightly arched. Lips : More substantial than in the Poitevin, i.e. very slightly square.

Eyes : Big and brown, sometimes circled with black.  Intelligent expression.

Leathers : Broader than those of the Poitevin, set at eye level, slightly curled, not too supple, preferably extending to the set-on of the nose or within two fingers of it.

 

NECK : Long, rather strong and sometimes with a slight trace of dewlap.

 

BODY:

Back : Sustained and solid.

Chest : Deep and well let down, at least as far down as the point of

the elbows. Ribs long and not too flat.

Belly : Very slightly tucked up.

 

TAIL : Quite long, carried high and with elegance.

 

LIMBS:

 

FOREQUARTERS : Well positioned, broad and straight.

 Shoulders : Long and close to the chest.

 

HINDQUARTERS:

Hips : Well laid, in harmony with the forequarters.

Thighs : Long, sufficiently muscled.

Hocks Rather broad, low set, slightly bent.

 

FEET:  Lean.

 

GAIT/MOVEMENT: Easy and light.

 

SKIN Quite fine

 

COAT

 

HAIR : Short and rather fine.

 

COLOUR : Tricolour, with black mantle more or less spread out. Tan preferably bright or even copper-taned. Neither black and tan on the cheeks and on the lips nor blue or tan fleckings on the legs and on the body are to be sought after.   The grizzled wolf colour is admitted.

 

SIZE : From 62 to 72 cm for the males and from  60 to 68 cm for the bitches.

 

FAULTS : Any departure from the foregoing points should be

considered a fault and the seriousness, with which the fault should

be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree.

Pink spots on the nose.

Under-or overshot mouth.

Light eyes.

 Leathers too flat, too short or set too high. e Legs badly positioned or thin.

Hocks too straight.

Fat feet.

Any apparent trace of English hound blood, especially in the head.

"Smoky'1 coloured heads which indicate cross-breeding with the White and Black Hound and all other colours than those above mentioned.

 

N.B. : Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.
