Essentials

ESSENTIALS OF THE CATAHOULA LEOPARD DOG: A hardy stock dog, exceptionally tough and fearless. An aggressive and hard heeler, unquestionably suited for working rough stock. Head large but in proportion to body; skull broad between the ears and flat; cheeks strong but not prominent; muzzle very strong, never snipy. Chest, reaching to the elbows, is deep, allowing for good heart and lung capacity. Back is level, long and strong. Legs of strong solid bone and taut muscle. Tail is set high, level to the back, and is carried down, reaching to the hocks. Coat is short and dense and colored in a merle or black/tan pattern. Height: 20-26 inches (51-66cm). Weight: 40-50 pounds (18-23 kg). Color is an especially notable feature: eye color and coat color working in a very complementary and expressive way.
